From Atta to Provedel: A recap of Serie A’s summer transfer window

La Viola secured Arthur Atta, Venezia were among the most active clubs, and Inter hope that Provedel will step into Sommer's shoes

As the World Cup reaches its decisive stage (with many of Serie A’s talents still in action in the competition), clubs are working tirelessly to deliver their managers’ first wave of reinforcements ahead of the 2026/27 season. With several teams already in pre-season training and others preparing to follow in the coming days, a number of notable transfers have already been completed. Here’s a round-up of the headline deals agreed by 10 July.

Fiorentina make a double swoop: Drăgușin and Atta

Fiorentina, under new sporting director Fabio Paratici, are looking to turn the page after a season below expectations and rebuild solid foundations.

Their first signing is Radu Drăgușin, who returns to Serie A following his spell in the Premier League. The Romanian defender, who has previously played for Juventus, Sampdoria, Salernitana and Genoa, left Tottenham after 48 appearances across two and a half seasons, a period that was hampered by a cruciate ligament injury in February 2025. Having been accustomed to playing in a three-man defensive line in London, he will now slot into Fabio Grosso’s four-at-the-back system, as he has done for the Romanian national team. Drăgușin brings physicality, international experience and, at just 23 years old, still plenty of room for growth.

However, La Viola’s headline signing is Arthur Atta. Fiorentina pipped the competition to the post, securing one of the most promising midfielders in Serie A. The Frenchman, born in 2003, arrives from Udinese following his breakout season: five goals, three assists, his first Serie A brace and **April’s Rising Star of the Month** award.

Nico Paz is the only midfielder younger than him to have scored multiple goals last season. Atta combines an imposing physical frame (189cm) with outstanding technical ability: his dribbling, progression and ability to arrive in the box saw him finish the season among the best performers in his position in one-on-one situations. Under Kosta Runjaić, he primarily played as a central midfielder, though he also operated in a more attacking capacity. In Fabio Grosso’s 4-3-3 system, he can fill either role, offering quality and intensity across the midfield.

Venezia among the most active clubs in the transfer window

Following Doumbia’s departure to Sporting, the Arancioneroverdi had already bolstered their ranks with former Verona defender Bella-Kotchap, ex Lecce midfielder Helgason and young Polish winger Kornel Lisman.

In recent days, they have added two more high-profile signings.

The first is Thierry Rendall Correia, a Portuguese right-back born in 1999 who came through Sporting’s academy and has spent his entire career at Valencia. Over seven seasons with the Spanish club, he made 160 official appearances, scored two goals and provided six assists, while also making his Champions League debut. Within the Portuguese youth set-up, he has progressed through all age groups, most recently winning the European Under-19 Championship, where he helped his nation beat Italy 4-3 in the final. His development was hampered by a cruciate ligament injury in October 2024, but a full recovery last season means he is now ready to embark on his Serie A adventure in peak condition.

The other new face is Albion Rrahmani, a Kosovar striker born in 2000. After beginning his career in his homeland and a spell at Dinamo Bucarest, he made his mark at Sparta Praga, where he scored 26 goals in 83 appearances over the past two seasons. He already boasts valuable European experience, gained in the Champions League and Europa Conference League, where he has also made his mark in front of goal. Since 2023, he has been a regular for the Kosovo national team, for whom he has already made 25 appearances and scored seven goals.

Gaetano joins Sarri at Atalanta, Oristanio reunites with Abate at Torino

Atalanta’s first signing under Maurizio Sarri is Gianluca Gaetano. The 26-year-old Neapolitan playmaker is aiming to take the next step after his recent seasons at Cagliari, where he contributed nine goals and nine assists in 76 appearances. A technically gifted and versatile player, he primarily operated as an attacking midfielder behind the strikers in Sardinia, but under Fabio Pisacane he dropped deeper, even playing as a deep-lying playmaker in a five-man midfield. This versatility could prove invaluable in Sarri’s system.

Gaetano Oristanio has also switched clubs, joining Torino under Ignazio Abate. For the midfielder, it will be his fourth consecutive season in Serie A, following spells at Cagliari, Venezia and Parma. To date, he has made 82 appearances, scored six goals and provided four assists in Italy’s top flight. In the 2024/25 season with Venezia, he showcased one of his standout attributes, becoming the most successful dribbler in Serie A with 55 successful take-ons from 118 attempts, despite his side’s relegation.

Inter Milan turn to Provedel to fill the gap between the posts

To succeed Yann Sommer, Inter Milan have secured Ivan Provedel.

The goalkeeper arrives from Lazio, where he has been one of the most consistent shot-stoppers in Serie A over the past four seasons. A former Spezia player, Provedel claimed the Serie A Goalkeeper of the Season award in 2022/23, a campaign that ended with Lazio finishing as runners-up. That same season, he equalled the Serie A record for most clean sheets in a single campaign with 21, a feat shared with Gianluigi Buffon and Morgan De Sanctis.

Born in 1994, Provedel brings a rare curiosity for a goalkeeper: he has scored two goals in his career, one for Juve Stabia in Serie B against Ascoli and the famous header against Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League while at Lazio – a strike that has since gone down in Champions League legend.
