Torino vs. Frosinone, big points up for grabs

Torino won’t want to let go of a chance of a finish in the European places, Frosinone needs points to improve their position

At the Olimpico Grande Torino, the Granata host Frosinone at 15:00 CEST. After two wins on the trot against Udinese and Monza, the Granata have slowed down with a defeat to Empoli and a goalless draw in the derby against Juventus last weekend. They need to win to keep fighting for a place in Europe. Fighting to stay in Serie A TIM, Frosinone haven’t picked up three points in a game since Cagliari on 21 January and they currently sit in the relegation zone despite being unbeaten in three games (draws against Genoa, Bologna, and Napoli).

Frosinone are the only team that have not yet won away from home in Serie A this season (D5 L11), since Serie A returned to 20 teams (2004/05) five of the eight teams without even one success after 17 away matches were then relegated at the end of the season. Only Inter (six) have conceded fewer goals than Torino (seven) in the first half this season in the big five European leagues. In the first half of the season, only 20 goals were seen in total (13 scored), only Nice had fewer in the top five European leagues (nine scored, 10 conceded).

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Torino are unbeaten in their five matches against Frosinone in Serie A, thanks to four wins followed by a draw in the first leg. They’ve only faced Mantova (14), Salernitana (8) and Messina (6) more often without ever losing in the competition. Torino won their first two Serie A home matches against Frosinone, who could become the 18th team beaten by the Granata in their first three home matches in the competition, and first since Piacenza in 2000.

Frosinone are the only opponent against whom Duván Zapata managed to score four goals in a single Serie A match (20 January 2019 with Atalanta); the Gialloblù (five goals in four matches) are, with Lecce, one of the only two teams against which the Torino attacker has more goals than appearances in the tournament. Since the beginning of March 2024 Walid Cheddira has scored four goals in Serie A, a record equal to Albert Gudmundsson in the period – the Frosinone striker has scored six goals in this championship and the only Moroccan player to do better in a single season in the competition was Achraf Hakimi (seven in 2020/21).
