Sassuolo hoping to get off the mark against Lazio

Sassuolo, the only team without a point, host a Lazio side fresh off a 4-0 win over Verona

After defeats to Napoli and Cremonese, Fabio Grosso’s Sassuolo are looking for their first points of the season at home to Lazio. It won’t be easy, however: Maurizio Sarri’s side immediately bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Como with a 4-0 thrashing of Verona and will be looking to keep that momentum going.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The two teams have faced each other 11 times in official matches in the Emilia region. The balance of those matches is three wins for the Neroverdi, two draws, and six wins for the Lazio side. The last two matches in Reggio Emilia have both ended in a 2-0 victory for Lazio.

DID YOU KNOW?

Sassuolo are currently on zero points after 180 minutes of league play; should the Neroverdi also lose today, it would replicate their only previous instance of taking no points from the first three matchdays—namely in their debut Serie A campaign in 2013/14.

COACHES and PLAYERS

Fabio Grosso and Maurizio Sarri face each other for the first time as head coaches in an official match. Fabio Grosso has yet to record a positive result as a head coach in Serie A: to date, the Neroverdi boss has been in the dugout for five league matches, all of which ended in defeat. As a player, Fabio Grosso scored two career goals against Lazio: on March 2, 2003 in Perugia–Lazio (2–2) and on November 23, 2003 in Lazio–Perugia (3–1). Castellanos and Zaccagni were Lazio’s most decisive players in the 2024/25 season, delivering a combined 21 points through their decisive goals—12 from Castellanos and 9 from Zaccagni. Daniel Boloca (108) is the player most frequently used by Fabio Grosso across Frosinone and Sassuolo.
