Salernitana has to get moving in the table against an on-form Genoa

After the two defeats to Juventus and Napoli, Salernitana will host Genoa in the hopes of winning some points and getting out of the bottom spot. The Rossoblu will be on the hunt for their sixth consecutive good result to keep them firmly away from the relegation places.

Genoa have been unbeaten in their last five Serie A games (W1 L4); in the period (since mid-December), only Inter, Juventus and AC Milan have not suffered any defeats alongside Grifone. Salernitana are at the bottom of the league table with only 12 points, the result of two wins and six draws (L 12); in the three-points-for-a-win era, only two teams have not been relegated with 12 or fewer points after their first 20 Serie A games of the season: the Granata team in 2021/22 (11 points at this stage) and Crotone in 2016/17 (10).

This will be the fifth match between Salernitana and Genoa in Serie A: two wins for each side and one draw. The first leg in this campaign was won by the Grifone on 27 October, 1-0 with Albert Gudmundsson's goal. Salernitana have won both home games against Genoa in Serie A (on 9 November 1947 and 2 October 2021); only against Lazio and Sampdoria have they achieved more home victories in the top-flight (three against both).

Antonio Candreva and Albert Gudmundsson are the two players who have been involved in the highest percentage for their team’s goals in Serie A this season: 53% for the Granata player (9: five goals and four assists, out of Salernitana’s 17 goals) and 50% for the Icelander (10: eight goals and two assists, out of Genoa's 20 goals). Antonio Candreva has provided four assists in his last seven Serie A appearances against Genoa; he has also scored six goals from outside the box in the last two seasons: no player has done better in the Big-5 European Leagues (Kylian Mbappé and Aleksandr Golovin also have six).
