Pervis Estupiñán: AC Milan’s new left wing-back
Il Diavolo have responded to Rossoneri fans’ cries following Theo Hernández’s recent departure to Simonce Inzaghi’s Al-Hilal with the signing of Pervis Estupiñán from Esmeraldas, Ecuador. The eyes of all football fans are now on AC Milan, curious to discover every detail of their latest purchase.
Who is Pervis Estupiñán?
Speed and talent are two words to begin with when describing this player who was high on Tare and Allegri’s wish list. He is 27 years old, he played for Brighton and other clubs, and he has already shown his ability on an international stage, thus coming to Milan with huge determination to make the jump and to reach maturity with one of the biggest winning clubs in Italy (and Europe). Estupiñán began his career between El Nacional and LDU Quito, but Udinese were the club to bring him to Europe back in 2016.
After a few loan spells in England and Spain, his breakthrough came at Villareal. With them, he showed his talent, giving himself the reputation as one of the biggest prospects in the league. His time with Brighton in the Premier League allowed him to continue his growth, also developing his attacking game, while refining his defensive qualities. AC Milan’s leaders definitely noticed his ability down the wing, his vision and his solid left foot and thus they went all-in on him to plug the gap down the left hand side.
Theo Hernández’s legacy: a challenging task
Replacing Theo Hernández won’t be an easy task, but Pervis Estupiñán has all the right assets to rise to the challenge and to bring his football to the top level. This year, in fact, AC Milan are focusing on, at very least, returning to the Champions League, and the Ecuadorian full-back will be key in reaching this goal.
With his grit and ability to push forward, the new Rossoneri signing will look to become part of Allegri’s tactical system as quick as possible since his new boss has always appreciated full-backs able to support the attack, take Cuadrado, Evra, Alex Sandro and Lichtsteiner for example. They are characteristics that work perfectly with the dynamic style of play that he will want to give AC Milan this season.

Estupiñán has all the potential to take another step forward, just like he has shown season after season. With Allegri in charge, the former-Brighton man will have the chance to refine his defensive technique, reading of the game and adaptation to AC Milan’s new tactical demands, without ever giving up his biggest weapon: his constant attacking threat. Wearing the Rossoneri shirt brings great responsibility, but Pervis has what it takes to live up to expectations.

His transfer to AC Milan is a huge step forward, but also a challenge to prove that he is capable of competing in Serie A.
