Napoli vs. Torino Kicks Off Matchday 28
Matchday 28 of Serie A kicks off at the Maradona with the clash between Napoli and Torino. After Napoli’s defeat to Atalanta, they are now back to winning ways following their victory over Verona and are hoping to make this a good run of form by making it two victories in a row to close in on Milan, who are in second place and are set to face Inter in the Derby on Sunday night. However, Torino also want to take home all three points as they too want to extend their win from the last matchday against Lazio.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
There have been 79 official meetings in Naples between the two sides: Napoli have won 32 (most recently 2–0 in last season’s Serie A), there have been 35 draws (most recently 1–1 in Serie A 2023/24) and Torino have won 12 (most recently 2–1 away in Serie A 2008/09).
Torino have not won in Naples since 17 May 2009: a 2–1 Serie A victory, with goals from Bianchi and Rosina after Napoli had taken the lead through Inácio Pià . Since then, there have been 13 meetings in Campania, with eight Napoli wins and five draws.
DID YOU KNOW?
Napoli have four fewer points than they did at Matchday 27 last season: the 57 points they had in 2024/25 were enough for second place, one point behind Inter, while this season they sit 11 points off the top due to Inter’s improved form (+6 compared with last season).
Napoli have gone nine straight official matches across all competitions without a clean sheet, conceding 16 goals in that spell. Their last clean sheet was on 17 January (Napoli–Sassuolo 1–0, Serie A).
Napoli are the Serie A 2025/26 team that have conceded the most penalties (8).
Torino have not collected fewer points than this in Serie A after 27 matchdays since 2020/21. That season, they were on 24 points after 27 rounds.
Only Verona (48) have conceded more goals than Torino (47) in Serie A 2025/26.
COACHES and PLAYERS
It will be the sixth official meeting between Antonio Conte and Roberto D’Aversa: Conte is unbeaten in the previous five (four wins and one draw). Conte’s teams have always scored in those matches (10 goals in total).
Romelu Lukaku scored against Verona: it was the Belgian striker’s first league goal of the season. He had not scored since 23 May 2025, in Napoli–Cagliari 2–0, the match that sealed Napoli’s fourth Scudetto.
Lukaku became the 17th different Napoli scorer in Serie A 2025/26. Only Juventus (18) have more different scorers than Napoli (17, level with Atalanta).
Giovanni Simeone scored against Lazio: it was the Torino forward’s sixth league goal of the season, and he had not scored since 4 January 2026 (Verona–Torino 0–3). It was also his 11th career goal against Lazio — by far the opponent he has scored against the most. Next come Juventus, Torino and Roma (six each), then Napoli, Venezia and Bologna (five each).
Duván Zapata scored against Lazio: it was the Colombian striker’s second league goal of the season. He had not scored since 8 December 2025, in Torino–Milan 2–3. He is also the oldest player Torino have fielded so far this season.
