MORATA JOINS COMO!

The former Juventus and AC Milan striker leaves Turkey to join the Lariani’s ambitious project. With Cesc Fàbregas in the dugout and a strong Spanish contingent, he brings goals, charisma and international experience.

Less than a fortnight before the start of the 2025/26 Serie A Enilive season, Como have pulled off the standout signing of their summer: Álvaro Morata is officially a Biancoblù player. The centre-forward returns to Italy just six months after the end of his spell at AC Milan, ready to open an entirely new chapter in his globe-trotting top-flight career. Hailing from Madrid, Morata came through the youth ranks of both of the capital’s iconic clubs, wearing each shirt and leaving his mark with a steady flow of goals. Since making his Real Madrid debut in 2010, his career has taken him to some of Europe’s biggest clubs: Juventus, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea and AC Milan. His honours list speaks for itself: two Champions League successes, two La Liga titles, two Serie A triumphs, an FA Cup victory and a host of other trophies, including the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League and Euro 2024, both won as captain of Spain. With 37 goals, he is La Roja’s fourth-highest scorer in history. Last season, he chipped in with six goals for AC Milan before joining Turkish side Galatasaray. There, he scored on seven occasions and provided three assists in 16 appearances, winning both the league and national cup competition. In Istanbul, he bagged five goals from open play – two came from the penalty spot – and developed a good understanding with Osimhen, often operating as a second striker in the team’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

What Morata brings to Como: leadership and experience for Fàbregas’s project

His return to Serie A, just a year after signing for AC Milan, marks a turning point: Morata joins Como – a side that returned to the top flight last year after a 21-year absence – not as the main striker for a big club, but as the leader of a young, ambitious group. His record in Italian football – 40 goals in the league, eight in the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa and one in the Supercoppa – tells the story of a striker who knows the pace and demands of our game inside out. Here, though, the challenge is different: to be someone the club’s many emerging talents can look up to. Several are Spanish themselves and eager to develop alongside the captain of their national team. Over the years, Morata has evolved from a pure penalty-box striker into a mobile, link-up forward who is comfortable combining in tight spaces, drifting between the lines and creating openings for teammates to exploit. He is an ideal fit for Cesc Fàbregas’s technical, attack-minded brand of football. Alongside talented youngsters such as Nico Paz and Assane Diao, as well as new signings Jesús Rodríguez, Nicolas Kühn and Baturinha, he will be able to put his football intelligence and positional sense to work for the team. Alongside him, fellow Spaniard Sergi Roberto and the charismatic Catalan coach will make up the experienced core of a Como side aiming to surprise. (Photo Website Como)
