Lazio vs. Juventus: three points needed

Matchday 8 concludes with a clash between Lazio and Juventus, with both sides needing a win to get back on track.

It’s a must-win for both sides as Lazio and Juventus face off at the Olimpico in the final game on matchday 8 in Serie A. Maurizio Sarri, the last coach to win the Scudetto in Turin, has seen his side go unbeaten in their last three matches, but two of these games ended in draws (against Torino and Atalanta). Juventus, under former Lazio boss Tudor, have four more points than their next opponents but haven’t won in almost a month and a half. They will need to raise their game if they are to challenge at the very top of the table.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

There have been 94 official meetings between the two sides in Rome, with a record of 33 Lazio wins, 24 draws, and 37 Juventus victories. Juventus have failed to score away to Lazio only once in their last 29 official visits: the 1–0 defeat on 30 March 2024 in Serie A. In the other 28 matches, the Bianconeri have scored a total of 43 goals.

COACHES and PLAYERS

Between Maurizio Sarri and Igor Tudor there have been 2 previous official meetings, in Lazio–Verona clashes in Serie A 2021/22: one win for the Croatian coach and one draw. A double “ex” on the bench: Sarri coached Juventus in 2019/20, totaling 34 wins, 9 draws, and 9 defeats in 52 official matches. Igor Tudor managed Lazio from March to June 2024, succeeding Sarri, with a record of 6 wins, 3 draws, and 2 defeats in 11 official matches. With the Scudetto won in 2019/20, Maurizio Sarri made history twice: it was Juventus’s ninth consecutive league title (the most recent they have won to date), and he became the oldest coach to win the single-group Serie A (61 years and six months). Dusan Vlahovic has scored seven goals against Lazio in his career; they are the second most he has netted against any club, after Cagliari (nine).
