Lazio visit Napoli looking to consolidate their lead

Downtrodden Napoli are hosting league leaders Lazio, who are determined to extend their lead at the top of the table.

All eyes are on the league leaders as Lazio, three points clear of Inter, travel to Napoli looking to extend their advantage before the Nerazzurri face Como at 18:00 CET. Gennaro Gattuso's side have been virtually flawless so far, winning nine matches and drawing only one match, against AC Milan. They are now chasing a seventh consecutive victory to maintain their lead at the top. Napoli, however, have exactly half as many points as their opponents and need to respond after their latest defeat to Juventus.

HEAD TO HEAD

There have been 82 previous competitive meetings between the two sides in Naples: 39 wins for Napoli (most recently 4-0 in Serie A 2021/22), 23 draws (most recently 1-1 in Serie A 2016/17) and 20 wins for Lazio (most recently 2-0 in Serie A last season).

The meeting on 29 April 1990 was a historic one: Napoli mathematically secured their 2nd Scudetto by beating Lazio 1-0 at the Fuorigrotta, with Marco Baroni scoring the decisive goal.

Lazio have won their last 4 matches away to Napoli: across those 4 meetings, Napoli have scored just once, through Zieliński on 2 September 2023 (Napoli-Lazio 1-2, Serie A). Napoli have now gone 238 minutes without scoring at home against the Biancocelesti.

Napoli have gone 6 competitive matches without a clean sheet: they have conceded 13 goals over that run. Their last clean sheet came on 11 October (Napoli-Frosinone 3-0, Serie A).

Napoli are unbeaten in their last 4 home matches: 3 wins and 1 draw, with 11 goals scored. Their last home defeat came on 9 September (Napoli-Arsenal 0-1, Champions League).

Lazio have scored in 10 consecutive competitive matches across all competitions: their last match without scoring came on 16 August (Lazio-Mantova 0-2, Coppa Italia).

Lazio have scored more goals than any other team between the 46th and 60th minutes (6).

Lazio have had more different goalscorers than any other team (12, level with Roma). The Biancocelesti have also been awarded more penalties than any other team (3, level with Monza).

COACHES and PLAYERS

This will be the 6th official meeting between Massimiliano Allegri and Gennaro Gattuso: the current Napoli coach has won all 5 previous encounters. Gattuso was also coached by Allegri at Milan for 2 seasons (2010/11 and 2011/12), winning 1 Serie A title and 1 Supercoppa Italiana.

Gennaro Gattuso faces one of his former clubs: he coached Napoli from December 2019 to June 2021, recording 45 wins, 13 draws and 22 defeats in 80 competitive matches, and also winning the Coppa Italia in 2019/20.

Gustav Isaksen scored against Cagliari: it was his 4th goal of the 2026/27 Serie A season, 1 short of his best league tally for Lazio (5 in 2025/26). The Dane has already scored twice against Napoli, making them his joint-favourite opponents in Italy alongside Juventus, Bologna and Cagliari.

Andrea Pinamonti scored against Cagliari: it was the Lazio forward’s 2nd goal of the season.
