Less than two weeks have passed since the end of the FIFA World Cup Final in New York, but the tournament's impact is still being felt in the Serie A Enilive transfer market. Juventus have secured one of Europe's most exciting young prospects, beating off international competition to sign Kerim Alajbegović following an outstanding debut professional season with Red Bull Salzburg and a historic World Cup campaign with Bosnia and Herzegovina. At just 18 years of age, the Bosnian playmaker has already written a chapter in his country's football history and arrives in Turin as one of the brightest talents of his generation.
From German academies to a breakthrough at Salzburg
Born in Cologne, Germany, on 21 September 2007, Alajbegović came through the youth systems at FC Köln and Bayer Leverkusen before joining Red Bull Salzburg for his first professional season.
He made an immediate impact, being named the Austrian Bundesliga's Player of the Month for September before finishing the campaign with 13 goals in 44 appearances. He also impressed on the European stage, scoring twice against Basel in the Europa League group stage.
The World Cup that announced him to the world
His performances had already caught the eye during the UEFA World Cup qualifying play-offs, where he proved to be a constant threat against Wales and Italy. Coming off the bench against the Azzurri, he fuelled Bosnia and Herzegovina's attack with his flair and energy before confidently converting his penalty. But it was at Bosnia and Herzegovina's historic first appearance at the FIFA World Cup that Alajbegović truly announced himself on the international stage.
Against Qatar, he scored one of the tournament's standout goals. Receiving the ball surrounded by three defenders, he escaped the pressure with a superb first touch, beat another opponent and fired a thundering right-footed strike that gave the goalkeeper no chance.
The goal made him the eighth-youngest scorer in FIFA World Cup history, capping a breakthrough season.
Technique, creativity and versatility for Spalletti's attack
Naturally a left winger, Alajbegović is two-footed and equally comfortable playing on the opposite flank or in a central attacking role behind the striker. His dribbling, acceleration and one-on-one ability are among his standout qualities, complemented by an excellent long-range shot, as shown by the goals he has scored from outside the box with both feet.
Two years younger than Kenan Yıldız, he is an ideal addition to expand Juventus' attacking options. He can play alongside the Turkish talent or rotate with him in an attacking unit that also includes Zhegrova, Francisco Conceição and Jérémie Boga. Spalletti will therefore have a wealth of quality, creativity and unpredictability at his disposal across the attacking midfield and wide positions as Juventus compete on multiple fronts.
Following in the footsteps of Pjanić and Salihamidžić
With his arrival, the number of Bosnian players to have made at least one Serie A appearance rises to 30. Alajbegović also becomes only the third Bosnian in Juventus’ history, after Miralem Pjanić and Hasan Salihamidžić.
Both left a lasting legacy in Bianconero. Pjanić established himself as one of the club's most influential deep-lying playmakers in recent history, while Salihamidžić made 73 appearances and scored eight goals during four seasons in Turin. Alajbegović now follows in their footsteps, determined to write the next chapter in that story.
