Inter v Verona: the title celebrations heat up

Inter host Verona before they lift the Serie A trophy.

San Siro will be in party mode to celebrate their team’s double. Christian Chivu’s men will lift the Serie A trophy following their game against Verona. But there is more: the Nerazzurro will also show of their Coppa Italia Frecciarossa trophy following Wednesday’s win against Lazio. Guests for the encounter are an already-relegated Hellas Verona, who will be hoping to finish their season on a high.

There have been 38 previous official matches at San Siro: 27 wins for the Nerazzurri (the most recent a 1-0 victory in the 2024/25 Serie A season) and 11 draws (the most recent a 2-2 draw in the 2014/15 Serie A season).

Inter are on a run of eight consecutive home wins against Verona. The last time the Scaligeri left San Siro unbeaten was on 9 November 2014: the match ended 2-2 with a brace from Icardi for Inter and goals from Toni and Nico López for the visitors.

The clash at San Siro in September 1991 between Inter and Verona was historic, setting a Serie A record: it was the only match in the Italian league in which a team was awarded four penalties in 90 minutes. Inter converted just one, scored by Desideri, missing the other three – taken by Matthäus, Brehme and Ciocci – all saved by Gregori.
