Genoa vs. Napoli: relegation pit and title race

Genoa host Napoli looking to bounce back from their defeat to Lazio, while the Partenopei aim to close in on Inter.

Matchday 24 of Serie A continues at Marassi as Genoa and Napoli battle for three important points. The home side, who had been on a five-game unbeaten run before losing to Lazio, want to move further away from the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s Napoli put their defeat to Juventus behind them by beating Fiorentina last time out. The Partenopei will be looking to build on that victory in a bid to close the gap on the top two.

There have been 60 official meetings at Marassi between the two sides: Genoa have won 21 (most recently 2–1 in Serie A 2020/21), there have been 21 draws (most recently 2–2 in Serie A 2023/24) and Napoli have won 18 (most recently 2–1 away in Serie A 2024/25).

Since 2012/13, Napoli have lost only once against Genoa (2–1 for the Rossoblù in 2020/21). In the remaining matches they have recorded 16 wins and eight draws (all in Serie A), scoring 48 goals to Genoa’s 21.

Five of Napoli’s last six wins away to Genoa at Marassi have ended 2–1.

On 10 June 2007 in Serie B, Genoa and Napoli drew 0–0 at Marassi, a result that mathematically secured promotion to Serie A for both. It was the only season in the second tier with no play-offs, as Genoa held a 10-point lead over the fourth-placed side (Piacenza).

COACHES and PLAYERS
Daniele De Rossi and Antonio Conte faced each other only once as players: Roma–Juventus 4–0 in Serie A on 8 February 2004.

Vitinha scored against Lazio: it was the Portuguese forward’s third league goal this season — his best scoring campaign since moving to Italy (he scored two in each of the previous two seasons, both with Genoa).

Ruslan Malinovskyi has received eight yellow cards: he is joint-most booked player in Serie A 2025/26, level with Marin Pongračić.

Miguel Gutiérrez scored against Fiorentina: it was the Spanish full-back’s first goal in Italy. He had not scored since 2 November 2024, in Girona–Leganés 4–3 in LaLiga.

Antonio Vergara scored against Fiorentina: it was his first Serie A goal. He had not scored since 29 March 2025, in Sassuolo–Reggiana 5–1 in Serie B.
