Genoa chase first win against Cremonese

Genoa host Cremonese looking to climb off the bottom, while the Grigiorossi aim high

Genoa welcome Cremonese to Marassi as they hunt for their first win of the season and a way out of last place. So far, Patrik Vieira’s side have suffered five defeats – most recently on Sunday against Torino – and recorded three draws, and they need to turn things around to avoid further complicating their campaign. Cremonese, meanwhile, are enjoying an excellent start to the season and currently sit in eleventh place. A victory, which has eluded them since the second matchday, would allow them to keep dreaming big.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The sides have met 11 times at the Marassi: eight Genoa victories (most recently a 4-1 success in Serie B 1998/99), two draws (the last being a 1-1 stalemate in Serie B 1988/89), and one Grigiorossi triumph (1-0 in Serie A 1994/95). This marks the first encounter between the clubs in the 21st century. Their last meeting in Genoa came on 15 November 1998 in Serie B, when Gigi Cagni's Grifone thrashed Giampiero Marini's Cremonese 4-1. Vukoja (penalty brace) and Francioso netted twice each for the Rossoblù, with Pizzi (penalty) grabbing a consolation. The last Serie A clash was on 27 November 1994—Cremonese's only-ever victory at Genoa. Tentoni struck the decisive goal for Gigi Simoni's Grigiorossi.

Davide Nicola come through the Rossoblù youth ranks, he made 183 appearances and scored four goals for the first team. As boss from January to August 2020, he registered eight wins, five draws and nine defeats across 22 matches—securing survival for the Grifone.
