Genoa-Atalanta: the penultimate matchday begins

Serie A Enilive Matchday 37 will open in Marassi with the face off between Genoa and Atalanta. Both sides have achieved their retrospective goals: the home side are safe but they will want to have the best send off possible in their last home game of the season. La Dea are fresh off a win against Roma that guaranteed them a Champions League spot but they’ll still be determined to add to their current tally.

Genoa have only won one of their last 16 Serie A games (D4 L11) against Atalanta (3-1 on December 22nd 2018, thanks to a Rafael Tolói’s own goals and Darko Lazovic’s and Krzysztof Piatek’s goals), a run in which they have conceded 37 goals, an average of 2.3 per game. Atalanta have won six of their last eight Serie A away games (D1 L1) against Genoa, after being winless in their previous nine (D5 L4). Atalanta have scored at least four goals in each of their last two league games against Genoa; the Bergamaschi have netted more than three goals in successive games against a single opponent in Serie A only against Sassuolo, between 2019 and 2021 (three).

Aarón Martin has provided six assists in the current Serie A season; the last Genoa player who provided more assists in a single top-flight season was Andrea Bertolacci in 2014/15 (eight). Mateo Retegui has scored 24 goals in Serie A in this season, 10 of those with his right foot and 9 with his left: only Alessandro Del Piero in 2007/08 has reached double figures for goals with both feet in a single Serie A season in the last 20 top-flight seasons (since 2005/06). He scored seven goals in 29 games last season for Genoa.
