Frosinone vs. Cagliari, fight for survival

Frosinone will host Cagliari to try and turn the tides: after the huge defeat in Sardinia in the first half of the season, the Ciociari will want revenge to shake off their bad run and series of five consecutive defeats in Serie A TIM. Cagliari, on the other hand, will want to replicate the three points won over Bologna to overtake the weekend’s opposition in the table and distance themselves from the bottom three that are still too close for comfort.

Only Frosinone (two) have gained fewer points than Cagliari (three) in Serie A away games this season. Indeed, they are two of the three sides, alongside Lecce, yet to win an away game in Serie A across 2023/24. Among current Serie A sides, Cagliari have the longest ongoing streak without an away win: 15 matches (D5 L10). The Sardinians' last away victory in the top-flight came on 27th February 2022 (2-1 against Torino).

Cagliari are unbeaten against Frosinone in Serie A (W2 D1). Only against Crotone (six), Salernitana (five) and Ternana (four) have they played more matches without ever losing in the top-flight. In the reverse fixture this season on 29th October 2023, Cagliari became the first side in Serie A history of Serie A to win a match with a three-goal deficit after the 70th minute (final score 4-3).

Matías Soulé has scored eight league goals this season, while only two Frosinone players have scored more in a single Serie A campaign: Daniel Ciofani and Federico Dionisi (both nine in 2015/16). Soulé (44) is one of three players born since 2003 with at least 40 shots in the Big-5 European leagues, alongside Alejandro Garnacho (43) and Xavi Simons (42). In Cagliari’s last match against Bologna, Andrea Petagna netted his first goal of the season, and could score in consecutive Serie A games for the first time since December 2020 (for Napoli in that case).
