Frosinone host Monza looking to rebound

Frosinone aim to avoid getting too close to the relegation zone, while Monza, three points above, play to distance themselves from rivals

In search of three points: at the Stadio Benito Stirpe, Frosinone and Monza kick off their 2024 and go in pursuit of the three points to fuel their respective objectives. The Giallazzurri come from three consecutive defeats against Lazio, Juventus, and Lecce (in between a 4-0 win against Napoli at the Maradona in Coppa Italia Frecciarossa), which have slid them down the table, and they aim to reverse this trend. However, Monza also seek three points after earning just one in the last three matches (a draw against Napoli and defeats to Fiorentina and Milan) to avoid being caught and to continue dreaming of the upper echelons of the table.

DID YOU KNOW?

Frosinone have won five of their nine home matches this season (D2 L2). Their record for home wins in a Serie A season is six (achieved in 2015/16 but in 19 matches). Monza (16) and Frosinone (13, tied with Cagliari) are two of the four teams that have fielded the most Italian players in this Serie A season - Empoli is in between with 15. Monza have missed two of their last three penalties in Serie A (Gytkjær against Lecce and Pessina against Napoli) after having scored their previous five penalties in the tournament

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Frosinone and Monza have never met in Serie A, but they have played four matches in Serie B between 2020 and 2022; the Brianza team leads with two wins to one, and one draw completing the record. Monza have never repeated the same result in two consecutive games against newly promoted teams in Serie A (W2 D3 L1); they won against Genoa in their most recent match (1-0 with a goal by Dany Mota on December 10th).

PLAYERS

Among players who have scored at least seven goals in the big five European leagues this season, only Jude Bellingham (born June 29, 2003) is younger than Frosinone’s Matías Soulé (seven goals for the Argentine born on April 15, 2003). Monza’s Andrea Colpani is the player who has scored the most goals in this season (six) without scoring any away from home; his last away goal in Serie A was on June 4th against Atalanta.
