Fiorentina vs Pisa – Tuscan derby for survival

The Tuscan derby carries enormous weight.

Fiorentina, still firmly in the relegation zone, are pushing for a second consecutive victory to distance themselves from the bottom two. Pisa, by contrast, are hoping for what would be only their second league win of the campaign – their first since 7 November against Cremonese – as they attempt to halve the gap between the two sides and revive dwindling hopes of survival.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

In Florence the precedents between the two teams are 12: 8 Viola victories (latest 4-1 in Serie B 1993/94), 3 draws (latest 0-0 in Serie A 1987/88) and 1 Nerazzurri victory (Coppa Italia di Serie C, 0-1, in 2002/03).

The only Pisa victory in Florence, 0-1 in August 2002 in Coppa Italia di Serie C, was the first official match of Fiorentina under the Della Valle ownership, in the aftermath of the bankruptcy of the Cecchi Gori era (summer 2002).
