Fiorentina searching for Europe in Salerno

Salernitana have to win to avoid an early departure from Serie A TIM, Fiorentina are still in search of a spot in Europe

Salernitana host Fiorentina at the Arechi in the hopes of bagging their first win in 2024 in front of their own fans after having picked up only 3 draws in the last 14 games. The Viola are also having a difficult run in the league, they haven’t won since 26 March and come off the back of a home draw against Genoa. The idea will be to try and bag those three points before turning to focus on the second leg of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa semi-finals on Wednesday in Bergamo, against Atalanta.

Before Salernitana in 2023/24 (68 goals conceded), the last team that had conceded at least 68 goals after 32 seasonal Serie A matches were Salernitana themselves in 2021/22 (69). In that case, despite having scored the same number of goals as in the current championship (26 in both 2023/24 and 2021/22), the Campania team had collected seven more points (15 vs 22). Salernitana’s Antonio Candreva is the player who in the last 20 Serie A seasons (since 2004/05) has provided the most assists against a single team in the tournament: 11 against Fiorentina. Fiorentina’s Andrea Belotti scored three goals in his first three matches against Salernitana in Serie A and only against three teams did he do better in his first four meetings in the Italian top-flight: Crotone (six), Bologna (five) and Frosinone (five).
