Fiorentina-Bologna, European points to play for

Fiorentina are hunting Bologna down and are dreaming of overtaking them

The Apennine derby will be crucial at the Franchi with Fiorentina determined to win and leapfrog their opponents to continue their European fight. It is the same goal for Bologna who, after winning the Frecciarossa Coppa Italia, want to get going again in their fight for Europe.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Bologna are the opponent against whom Fiorentina have recorded the most victories in their Serie A history: 57 wins in 145 matches, along with 42 wins for the Emilians and 46 draws. Bologna have won four of their last five Serie A matches against Fiorentina (L1), including the most recent two. The Rossoblu have recorded three consecutive wins against the Viola in the competition only once before: between 1965 and 1966. Fiorentina are unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 home matches against Bologna in Serie A (W9 D3), keeping a clean sheet on nine occasions. The only win for the Emilians in this period came on February 5, 2023 (2-1).

DID YOU KNOW?

Fiorentina have lost their last two Serie A matches against Roma and Venezia; the Viola could suffer three defeats in a row for the second time in this campaign, having previously done so in February (against Inter, Como, and Hellas Verona). Bologna have earned just two points in their last three league matches. The Rossoblu have only once gone four consecutive matches without a win in Serie A this season: in the first four matchdays (D3 L1). After the defeat against Milan in the league, Bologna could lose consecutive Serie A matches for the first time in over two years, since January 2023 (against Roma and Atalanta in that case). This match is between the team that has scored the highest percentage of goals in the first 15 minutes in Serie A this season (Fiorentina 20% - 11/54) and the team that has scored the fewest in percentage terms during the first quarter of an hour (Bologna 4% - 2/54).

PLAYERS

Rolando Mandragora (nine goals) is the second-highest scorer for Fiorentina in all competitions this season, behind only Moise Kean (23). The last Fiorentina midfielder to score more goals in a single season across all competitions was Jordan Veretout (10 in 2017/18). Riccardo Orsolini has scored 13 goals in this campaign, and since Serie A returned to 20 teams (since 2004/05), only two Bologna players have scored more in a single season: Marko Arnautovic (14 in 2021/22) and Marco Di Vaio (19 in 2010/11 and 24 in 2008/09).
