Empoli determined to take points in Monza
The U-Power Stadium is saying goodbye to Serie A and Monza are looking for a second win in a row to give their fans a parting gift. Empoli must either win or take points, who currently sit in the relegation zone and just one point off Venezia who are currently safe on 29 points.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Empoli are unbeaten in three (W2 D1) of their five Serie A meetings against Monza; the Toscani have also kept a clean sheet in their last two games against them. Monza have won their previous two Serie A home games against Empoli; the Brianzoli have never won each of their first three top-flight games on their own patch against a single opponent. Monza are unbeaten in three of their last four league games against Empoli (W2 D1), after losing four of their previous six meetings against the Toscani in the 2000s between Serie A and B (D2).
DID YOU KNOW?
Both Monza and Empoli have won their last league game, after having played 15 and 20 consecutive Serie A games respectively without winning; the Brianzoli could win back-to-back games for the first time in the competition since March 2024, while the Toscani last did so in May 2023. Empoli are unbeaten in their last Serie A away game of the season in each of their last three years (W1 D2), after losing each of their previous six. Monza have won just one of their last 22 home games (D6 L15) in Serie A (2-1 against Fiorentina in January 2025), losing the most recent two without scoring: the Brianzoli have never suffered more consecutive home defeats without scoring in the competition. For the first time in their history, Empoli have three players who have scored at least three goals before turning 23 years in a single Serie A season (Lorenzo Colombo 5, Sebastiano Esposito 8 and Jacopo Fazzini 3). No team in the current season has more (three also for Bologna, Juventus and Parma). Empoli (59%: 17 out of 29) and Monza (52%: 14 out of 27) are two of the three teams that have scored the highest ratio of their goals in the first half in Serie A this season: Fiorentina (57%: 31 out of 54) are second.
PLAYERS
PLAYERS
Keita Baldé has scored two goals in with Monza the current league season; in the last 10 campaigns (since 2015/16), no foreign player has scored at least two goals with more different clubs than him in Serie A: five, level with Gianluca Lapadula and Giovanni Simeone. Sebastiano Esposito has scored eight goals in the current league season, with seven of these in away games; only one player in the history of Empoli has netted more goals in away matches in a Serie A campaign: Francesco Tavano (eight in 2005/06).
