Cagliari vs. Genoa: Serie A Returns to Action

Cagliari and Genoa go head-to-head for vital survival points.

A relegation clash will take place at the Unipol Domus between Cagliari and Genoa. The Sardinian side haven’t won a match since 19 September and have only gained three points over their last seven matches, the latest being at Como two weeks ago. Now, they hope to turn things around. Genoa have the same objective. After their win against Sassuolo, they drew with Fiorentina before the international break. They are also preparing for Daniele De Rossi’s debut on the touchline, following his suspension two weeks ago.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

In Sardinia, the head-to-head record between the two teams stands at 40 matches: 22 home wins for Cagliari (the most recent a 2–1 victory in Serie A 2023/24), 10 draws (the last a 1–1 in Serie A last season) and 8 Genoa wins (the most recent a 3–2 success in Serie A 2021/22). In the three-points-for-a-win era (since the 1994/95 season), a 0–0 draw in this fixture has occurred only once, in Serie A 2022/23.

DID YOU KNOW?

Cagliari are one of the three teams in Serie A 2025/26 to have used all the substitutions available so far (55 out of 55), along with Bologna and Torino. For the first time this season, Genoa come into the match on the back of two positive results: a 2–1 away win at Sassuolo and a 2–2 home draw against Fiorentina. Leo Østigård scored in both games.

COACHES and PLAYERS

Fabio Pisacane and Daniele De Rossi faced each other twice as players: two wins for the current Genoa coach in Roma–Cagliari, both 1–0 victories in Serie A 2016/17 and 2017/18. Pisacane is a former Genoa player: he made just one appearance for the club, which coincided with his professional debut, a 3–1 Genoa–Catanzaro on 28 May 2005 in Serie B. Genoa were coached by Serse Cosmi, and Pisacane came on in the 69th minute in place of Francesco Baldini.
