Cagliari vs. Como: Survival and Top 4 Dreams

Cagliari and Como are on the hunt for those vital three points to reach their respective goals.

Saturday’s schedule for Matchday 28 of Serie A begins at the Unipol Domus. After drawing with Lazio and Parma, Cagliari now welcome Como into their home with the hopes of securing their first win since January and moving away from the relegation zone. It won’t be an easy task as Cesc Fàbregas’s squad are currently in spectacular form after their wins against Juventus and Lecce, and are now looking to finish in fourth place, where Roma currently sit, who they will play next week.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

There have been 27 meetings in Sardinia between the two sides: Cagliari have won 16 (most recently 2–0 in Serie B 2003/04), there have been seven draws (most recently 1–1 in last season’s Serie A) and Como have won four (most recently 1–0 away in Serie B 2001/02).

In Cagliari–Como on 11 January 1976, Rossoblù legend Gigi Riva scored his final goal before the serious injury he suffered on 1 February 1976 in Cagliari–Milan 1–3, which ended his career after 376 appearances and 205 goals.

It will be the second official meeting between Fabio Pisacane and Cesc Fàbregas, after the reverse fixture ended 0–0 at the Sinigaglia.

Anastasios Douvikas scored against Lecce: it was the Greek striker’s ninth Serie A goal. He had not scored since 24 January (Como–Torino 6–0), when he netted a brace.
