BONNY JOINS INTER: AN ALTERNATIVE TO THURAM
Cristian Chivu’s Inter is starting to take shape, not only tactically – with the first signs already emerging during the Club World Cup – but also in terms of squad building. The Nerazzurri have officially announced the signing of Ange-Yoan Bonny, the talented young French striker who played a key role in helping Parma secure safety last season.
BONNY’S NUMBERS: STEADY GROWTH
After developing at Châteauroux, where he made his Ligue 2 debut and scored one goal in five appearances, Bonny moved to Parma at a very young age to begin his journey in Italy. In his first season, he was initially part of the Primavera squad but also featured for the first team. Indeed, he played 13 times in Serie B, all off the bench, under Maresca and then Iachini. Following Fabio Pecchia’s arrival, his playing time increased: he made an additional 24 appearances (three as a starter) in Italy’s second tier, with one goal and one assist.
2023/24 was truly his breakthrough season: Bonny stepped up and was one of Parma’s key figures in their return to the top flight, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 34 matches – including the decisive goal against Bari that secured promotion. He pushed on in his first Serie A Enilive campaign, continuing to grow at the top end of the pitch with six goals and four assists. These numbers cemented his status as one of the league’s most promising young strikers and a vital contributor in the Gialloblù’s battle for survival.
WHAT HE CAN BRING TO INTER: POWER, SPEED AND PROMISE
Standing at 1.89 m with an imposing physique, Bonny’s biggest assets are his speed and dribbling ability. A centre-forward who excels at playing with his back to goal and linking up with teammates, his physical and technical qualities make him the ideal alternative to his compatriot Marcus Thuram. Thanks to his versatility, he can also operate as a second striker. With his 22nd birthday coming up in October, he is a young, exciting talent who can help rejuvenate Inter’s attack, injecting energy and unpredictability into an area of the pitch where the Nerazzurri are seeking fresh options.
The French striker has also demonstrated his scoring prowess, making notable improvements in front of goal over the years. In his first Serie A campaign, he scored two penalties, a tap-in and three goals with his right foot, including a wonderful backheel against Como and a stunning curler away to Monza. Thanks to these finishes, he became just the second French player to score more than five Serie A goals before turning 22 in the three-points-per-win era (since 1994/95), following in the footsteps of Paul Pogba.
CHIVU AND BONNY: A BOND FORMED IN PARMA
Bonny was also a key figure during Chivu’s time at Parma, scoring the first goal of his Serie A coaching career – the opener in a 2-0 win over Bologna.
Reuniting with a coach who knows and trusts him could prove crucial for his development.
Inter believe in his story, and Chivu is counting on him. Now, it’s up to Bonny to demonstrate all his talent in Nerazzurri colours.
