Atalanta in Monza to consolidate third spot
Monza will host Atalanta in a 15:00 CEST kick-off at the U-Power Stadium. After wins against Bologna and AC Milan, La Dea drew against Lecce last week and now want to return to winning ways, with Gasperini’s men also aware that Bologna and Juventus – their nearest challengers – are meeting on Sunday evening. Monza, who haven’t won since 13 January, have 15 points to their name and want to reach at least 18 to avoid becoming the team with the worst record in a 20-team league in the three-points-per-win era (Salernitana 17 points, 2023/24).
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Among the opponents against which Atalanta have achieved 100% victories against in Serie A, Monza are the one that the Bergamo side have faced the most (5/5); the aggregate score between the Dea and the Biancorossi in the top-flight is 14-3.
DID YOU KNOW?
Monza have earned 15 points this season; only four teams have collected fewer after 34 league games in the three points for a win era in Serie A (since 1994-95): Pescara (14 in 2016-17), Ancona (13 in 2003-04), Napoli (14 in 1997-98) and Brescia (12 in 1994-95). With 65 points earned this season, this is Atalanta's third-best season in Serie A after 34 games, after 2019-20 (71) and 2020-21 (69). Furthermore, Atalanta have conceded 31 goals this season; only once have they conceded fewer after 34 league games in their history in the top-flight (28 in 1964-65). Atalanta are the team that have earned the most points away from home in this Serie A season (36 in 17 away matches); considering the big five European leagues in 2024-25, only Liverpool (38) and PSG (37) have more points away from home (Barcelona also have 36). Atalanta have won five of their last six away games in Serie A (D1), scoring 17 goals (2.8 per game) and conceding only two.
PLAYERS
Dany Mota is the Monza player with the most appearances (92), goals (14) and goal involvements (20 – 14 goals, 6 assists) in Serie A. Mota, who has scored five goals this season, could score six goals in a Serie A season for the first time (5 also in 2022-23). Mateo Retegui, who has scored 24 goals this season, has equalled Filippo Inzaghi (24 goals in 1996-97) as Atalanta's top scorer in a single season in the history of Serie A. However, he has played 269 minutes without scoring against Monza in the league: only against Inter has he gone more minutes without scoring (283).
