Atalanta go to Empoli to keep their belief high
Empoli and Atalanta face off at the Castellani Computer Gross Arena in the third-last game of matchday 26. The Tuscan outfit haven’t won since 8 December and have taken just two points in their last ten games as they slipped dangerously close to the dropzone. For Atalanta, meanwhile, it’s about moving on from their Champions League disappointment and picking up three big points as they look to keep their Scudetto dreams alive.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Empoli have lost their last five Serie A games against Atalanta, a joint-negative open streak of consecutive defeats in the competition – five also against Inter, who they have already met twice in 2024/25. Empoli have lost five of their last six home games against Atalanta in Serie A (W1): in the last 10 seasons (since 2015/16), only against Inter (seven) have the Tuscans suffered more home defeats in the competition.

Atalanta are unbeaten in their last 10 away league games (W7 D3) and in the Gasperini era they registered only one streak with more away games in a single Serie A campaign without defeat: in the first 12 away games of the 2021/22 (W9 D3). In the calendar year 2025, Empoli have gained the joint-fewest points in Serie A: two, alongside Parma. Empoli have also conceded the most goals in the period (17), while Atalanta are at 10th place, level with Fiorentina (both 10 points). Atalanta have attempted the most shots on target in Serie A this season (140), while Empoli have conceded the most total shots (381); in addition, the Dea conceded the joint-fewest goals in away games: 10, level with Inter.
PLAYERS
With Ademola Lookman on the pitch Atalanta have won 68% of their matches, gaining 2.3 points per game and scoring 2.3 goals on average in Serie A this season – without him the percentage of wins drops to 33%, with 1.3 points gained and 1.8 goals scored. His next appearance will be his 200th in the big five European leagues. After his goal by penalty in the reverse match on 22 December 2024, Atalanta could become the first team against which Sebastiano Esposito scored in both Serie A games of a season – he is close to score 10 goals in the top-flight (nine so far), although only two arrived in home games. In the big five European leagues in 2024/25, only Mohamed Salah has scored more away goals than Mateo Retegui: 12 (level with Robert Lewandowski), with six of those arrived in his last two away games (a brace against Como, and four goals against Hellas Verona).
