Bologna vs Lazio to conclude Coppa Italia quarterfinals
Bologna and Lazio bring the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa quarterfinal stage to a close at the Dall’Ara, with a place in the semifinals at stake. The winners will face Atalanta, who are waiting to discover their next opponents, while the other semifinal has already been set as Inter vs Como.
The defending Coppa Italia holders, coached by Vincenzo Italiano, come into the clash on the back of a 2–1 victory over Parma. Goals from Rowe and Castro overturned Benedyczak’s early opener, keeping Bologna’s hopes alive of replicating last season’s triumphant run that culminated in lifting the trophy.
Lazio, however, are determined to spoil the party. Maurizio Sarri’s side, fresh from eliminating Milan in the round of 16, are targeting a deep run in the competition, with the ambition of reaching the final and playing for silverware in front of their own supporters.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
There have been 79 official meetings in Emilia between the two sides: Bologna have won 44 (most recently 5–0 in Serie A 2024/25), there have been 19 draws (most recently 0–0 in Serie A 2022/23) and Lazio have won 16 (most recently 2–0 in Serie A 2018/19).
This will be the 11th Bologna–Lazio meeting in Coppa Italia history: Bologna lead the record with six wins, alongside three draws and two Lazio wins. The two sides have two qualifications each: Bologna in 1980/81 and 1989/90, Lazio in 1959/60 and 2022/23.
Lazio have gone 500 minutes without scoring at the Dall’Ara: their last goal there was scored by Immobile (40th minute of Bologna–Lazio 2–2, 6 October 2019, Serie A).
DID YOU KNOW?
Lazio have not reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals since 2023/24, when they were eliminated by Juventus.
In Bologna–Parma last weekend, both teams received at least one red card — something that had not happened in the same match since Matchday 18 of Serie A (Lazio–Napoli 0–2, with Marušić, Noslin and Mazzocchi sent off). These are the only two matches in which this has occurred across Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
COACHES and PLAYERS
It will be the eighth official meeting between Vincenzo Italiano and Maurizio Sarri: in the previous seven, Sarri has four wins, Italiano one, with two draws.
Gustav Isaksen scored against Juventus in Serie A: it was the Danish forward’s third league goal of the season. He had not scored in an official match since 7 December (Lazio–Bologna 1–1).
